Photo of the Earth from the Moon
The first photo of the Earth from the moon was taken by Lunar Orbiter 1 on August 23, 1966.
Lunar Orbiter 1 was an unmanned spacecraft that was sent to collect photos from the moon in order to try to find a safe place for future ships to land. This picture was taken from a distance of about 236,000 miles (380,000 kilometers).
How incredible to see the earth rise over the moon instead of the other way around!
