Handprint Dragonfly Craft

Yet another craft that uses handprints (I love 'em!!). This one needs handprints with the fingers squeezed together instead of spread apart.

Materials:
- paper (for handprints) - one color works well
- pencil or marker
- something to color with (if using the B&W version).
- scissors,
- glue,
- printer and paper
Instructions:
- Print out the template of choice.
- Color the template pieces (if using the B&W version).
- Cut out the template pieces (young children may need help with this step).
Trace the child's hands on colored paper and cut out:
- The dragonfly looks best if the fingers of the hand are kept pressed together
- you end up with a handprint that looks like the one to the right.
- it's not the end of the world if the fingers are spread apart though!
- Assemble the wings:
- Glue three handprints together to make the longest possible wing
- Repeat so you have 4 wings
- Finish the rest of the dragonfly
- Glue two of the wings to the top (fat end) of the long body shape -- they should slant slightly up
- Glue the last two wings just under the first two, slanting slightly down
- Glue the circle (head) to the body shape (fat end)
- Glue the face and antennas onto the head
- Glue the flower in the "hair", on a wing or beside the neck
- Optional: Print a Handprint Poem on the back
Templates:
- Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
- Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
