May sound silly but teenagers really do think babysitting is nothing but eating, talking on the phone, watching TV and being paid for it. She may not know what she's supposed to do. Although this sounds crazy. I was shocked to learn that when my son is at friend's house the 12 y/o babysits him. He sent my 4 y/o outside because he saw my car outside (we live next door). I came home on an emergency with my mother. My son shouldn't have seen what he saw nor should he have been outside by himself. When I asked why he came home by himself the boy told me he saw my car so figured I was ready for him. 'it's just nextdoor, what's the big deal?' he told me. The mother said she didn't know what was going on til she noticed my son was gone. She just thought they were playing. She figured I came and got him. According to my son she was sleeping. Obviously I won't be relying on them to care for my son any more. |
