Subject:  Re: Graduation gifts for classmates
Message:  You can make savings or keepsake jars by painting a baby food jar any color that you want. Then you take fun foam and cut out a square that is about double the size of a baby food jar. You then glue the fun foam square to the lid of the baby food jar and you can make a tassel from yarn or DMC floss by cutting a couple of strands the same length and knotting them together at the top. You can either glue it to the top, or glue a button that is the same color as the fun foam on top of the knot to hide it and look official. Children can then use the jars to hide special treasures or save their coins in. You can use a larger jar as well with the same idea.

You can make fun graduation pencils by taking an unsharpened pencil and a wooden bead (check craft stores or Wal Mart they are pretty inexpensive). Paint the beads any color you want (you will need one per pencil). I like the idea of having them bright yellow so that it can be a graduation happy face. You then cut a square of fun foam slightly larger than the bead, and glue it to the top, you can attach a DMC floss tasel to the top of it to make it look more realistic.

You could give each child a beachball that says "We had a ball in Mr/Mrs ________ class" and let the kids pass them around the room and sign them with permanent markers of various colors

There are lots of teacher poems on the DLTK site at: http://www.dltk-kids.com/school/poems_for_teachers.htm

Hope this helps!
