| Message: | Banners like that claiming that you are the 1st visitor, 10th visitor, 100th vistor, 1000 visitor, or even the 1000000 are simply ads to get you to click on a link. Many of these links do offer some sort of incentives, but there is a lot of fine print that you need to read. For instance: many of them will offer you a free vacation for listening to a time-share once you have gotten yourself to your destination, basically, you pay your travel expenses, and the hotel stay only is in exchange for listening to a time-share. Still others offer a free gift for being the ______ customer. If you read the fine print on the website you are often responsible for the shipping and handling charges, which can be anywhere from $5.95 and up per item. The best way to judge whether or not such advertisements are real is to see if they mention a website address. If they do, visit the website and read more about the company before you give out your personal identifying information. Additionally, keep in mind the golden rule: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Hope this helps! Love in Christ, Sarah in California |
