The discussion group is in what are called "frames" This is so that you can always see the table of contents and easily hop around between notes).
In order to open a window outside of the frames, just RIGHT CLICK and chose OPEN FRAME IN NEW WINDOW from the menu that comes up
If you want to shrink or expand one of the frames, just hold your left mouse button down on one of the little frame bars that separates the frame and drag the bar whichever way you want too.
