Hi,

You have a choice between making crafts that remind you of the Caribbean or making crafts that follow a Caribbean artistic style

CARIBBEAN STYLE:

----------------

I think most of these would be better for the older children in the group (I'm not sure if you're splitting them up at all??)

BATIK: is a popular method of making clothes or bags. I'll add a separate response with ideas on how to do simple batik with children.

BASKET WEAVING: This can be done with construction paper. Younger children can weave paper through strawberry baskets. Older children can create their own basket frames and weave with either paper or natural materials http://www.museumeducation.org/pdf/Basketry/activity.PDF has some info on teaching basket weaving to children. If you need more info please let me know.

REMIND YOU OF THE CARIBBEAN CRAFTS:

------------------

Basic beach/seashell/ocean crafts with lots of bright colors would be good "remind you of the Caribbean" type projects.

For example, make a picture frame in bright summer colors using craft foam or popsicle sticks and cover with seashells) or some of the ocean crafts we have on our website

http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/ocean.html (all of the ocean crafts are easy and use inexpensive materials)

The youngest children may enjoy something like the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom craft (if you get the tape recording that goes with the book it has a very neat "musical" rendition of the story http://www.dltk-kids.com/books/chicka/index.htm
