As a Brownie and Guide Leader, this happens to be one of our favorite materials for crafts! Why? Because they are FREE!!! Well the cannisters, anyways...

I go to Wal~Mart and ask if I can have a few and they are ALWAYS VERY HAPPY for me to take them... I have even started giving them back a craft that the girls have made to give others ideas on using them. RECYCLING is high on our list of things to teach our girls... Boys too, if you have Scouts, Beavers, or a son or two!!!

Anyway, back to the craft... We have made little "Frying Pans" and "Pots" with the cannisters for a Camp hat craft... An adult should probably do the cutting part... Simply cut from the top of the cannister down about 3/4 of the way... now make another cut the same, about 1/4 ~ 1/2" away from the 1st cut, and down the same distance... Now, cut all the way around, keeping it at the same level... When this cut is done, bend the little piece that is left attached to the bottom. This is now the "Handle" of the "Pot"... To make a "Frying Pan", do exactly the same thing, only go closer to the bottom of the cannister...

Now to decorate... We have used a number of materials to immulate what wood be a meal cooking in the "Pot" or "Pan"... Anything small, is great... Dried mini peas, broken uncooked spaghettini, and other such item to look like food...

One girl was so creative she used a little white glue (school glue) and white paint, mixed it together and then poured it into the "Frying Pan" and put a super tiny yellow pompom in the middle of the glue! It really looked like Eggs!!! Sunny~Side Up!!! There are all kinds of things the kids can come up with... Just let them go at it!!!

There are many others too, but do you think I can remember them now??? no... Guess another trip to Wal~Mart is in store and I'll visit the Photo Lab to see what else we made... haha!!!

Have fun crafting!!!
