I was an assistant in a K-1 split one year and they acted out the story of "Mortimer", by Robert Munsch. The teacher read the story and the kids chanted the verse at the appropriate times and did the actions. It is a good story to do with a class because you can "cast" the characters and then make the brother's and sister's any amount of children you want (the story calls for 17) All the props needed were a bed for Mortimer.
