Hello Kim - I to am a Pre-K teacher and this will be my first year planning the graduation ceremony for my 4/5 year olds. I am excited and nervous for I remember the Christmas pageant and the children froze in front of the parents. Anyways, because of what happened last September and there are many of us who were affected, we decided to have a patriotic theme. We will have a flag hanging behind the podium, the children will be wearing white caps/gowns and I am making red/white/blue gold-star ribbons for them to wear around their necks with the name of the school and the year written on them. The chilren are going to sing some of the songs taught throughout the year (the months of the year, days of the week) plus a few well known songs (This Land is Your Land, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing) One thing I decided to do is to video tape the children playing/learning while I read a letter to "Mom and Dad", then have each child respond to a question "What do you have to be thankful for?" and while each child is receiving his/her diploma have the parents watch the video. I also have collected pictures of the children throughout the year and now am in the process of creating a mini-album for each to hand out after graduation. I hope this helps with some ideas. Good Luck!
