Dora the Explorer Birthday Ideas
Notes from Leanne (the mom who runs DLTK's are in brown)
Our site has loads of printables for use at
a Dora the Explorer themed Birthday Party, including greeting cards, treat bags,
coloring pages, iron on
t-shirts, calendars and crafts. Many of these are needed for every party
and many of the others make great treat bag additions or even gifts for the
birthday boy or girl. Check out our Dora
the Explorer Section for all of
these and more.
Also check out Ilona's cool Dora
images from a party she had for her kids (pinata, cake, treats and
backpack!). The pinata was just a circle shape (a dollar store blow
up punch ball would work) with black crepe paper hair and painted features.
But we all know there's more to a party
than things you print out! Here are some ideas to fill in the gaps:
ACTIVITIES/GAMES:
dwillett contributes:
- We made pin the backpack on Dora game. We enlarged and printed out a
picture of Dora and taped it together on a poster board and then printed out
coloring pages of Backpack (colored them) and covered them with clear
contact paper.
Keri contributes:
- Make a BINGO game using pictures, signs or words from the series.
Susan contributes:
- a "Guess what is in the backpack?" game. Put an ordinary
item, for example, a spoon, in the backpack and have the kids guess what's
inside. Or you could use the same idea and have a grab
"backpack" for goodies.
- Another idea would be to create a game "Find Swiper" and hide a
stuffed fox and have kids hunt for it.
Ilona contributes:
- I used your b&w template of the pink flowers and
vase, colored them in various colours and put lollypops in the middle, for being Isa's flowers (I had a treasure hunt with all Dora's friends - Isa lost her flowers).
First the cake was stolen by Swiper (picture in the kitchen), then they found a picture of Backpack and Map (their Backpacks with a Map in it), then Dora (pinata), Isa (flowers), Benny (balloons with a little toy in them), Boots (I put bananas in the willowtrees - imagine the faces of the people walking by!), Tico (I took the starcatcher-template from Nickjr.-site, the kids had to find their own set of stars) and the last one was Senor Tucan (throwing 'eggs' - pingpongballs- in a colored eggtray, which colors matched a snack - never mind Senor Tucan is male).
So, here some pics of the cake, pinata and party-bag, which I all made myself.
One viewer contributes:
- For party ideas – how about a pinata!
(very Mexican and goes well with the show)
- put on your own Dora episode, having backpacks, maps, and other items all
leading to the party. Dora had an episode that lead them to her
mother’s house for Boot’s birthday party.
DECORATIONS:
One viewer suggests:
- placemats (use colouring in pages and let the little ones colour them)
One viewer contributes:
- At some party accessory stores (and on
this site!), they have the Cinco de Mayo day section and that
should help with cheap decorations to hang.
FOOD:
One viewer contributes:
- For food, how about mini tacos.
- Glue small images (from coloring pages or clipart) onto toothpicks.
Let dry. Stick in the top of cupcakes for an instant theme party
treat!
