Magic Wand Craft
Today, we are journeying into a realm of enchantment and fantasy with our latest project, the Magic Wand Craft. This delightful and engaging activity is not just about creating a charming piece of art, it's also about kindling the magical spark within you, cultivating your creativity and imagination, and celebrating the unique individual you are.
Materials:
- Newspaper
- Tape
- Mixture of 1/2 white glue and 1/2 water OR paper mache paste
- Magical item. Examples include sparkles, pipecleaner, feather, ribbon, piece of twisted Aluminum foil.
- Silver, gold, black, brown or grey paint or markers.
Instructions:
- In this craft, the most enchanting part is the heart of your magic wand - its magical center. You won't be able to see this magical center once the wand is complete, but you'll always know it's there, adding a sense of wonder and mystery to your creation. Your magical center could be a variety of special items such as a pipecleaner or twisted Aluminum foil (as symbolic of a unicorn tail hair), a feather (representing a Phoenix feather), or a ribbon (for a dragon heartstring).
The magic wand crafting journey also presents an opportunity to connect with nature. You might find the magical item you need outside - a blade of grass or a feather, for instance. Or, with permission from mom or dad, you could even use a small snippet of your hair! And for an extra sprinkle of magic, feel free to add some sparkles.
Once you've chosen your magical center, you'll roll it up tight within a piece of newspaper. Chanting magical words as you roll (like "ROLLUS ENCOMPUS") is optional, but encouraged for a full magical experience!
Put your magical items on the edge of a 1/2 piece of newspaper and roll it up
tight like a sausage. You might want to chant a couple of magical words as you roll (ROLLUS ENCOMPUS, for example).- Take a look at the length of your wand. If you like it, great! If it's too long, take scissors and trim in down (every wand is different!).
- Tape the newspaper sausage tightly so it doesn't unroll as you work. Put tape over the two ends so your magical items don't fall out.
- Take 1 inch x 6 inch (ish) strips of newspaper and dip them in the paper mache paste OR water/glue mixture. Wrap them tightly around the newspaper sausage.
- Let your wand dry.
- Paint the wand your chosen color (or color with markers). You can also dip the tip in white glue and then coat with silver or gold sparkles.
