Scotland is a country in the United Kingdom on the continent of Europe. Scotland is known for its Highlands, islands, the Loch Ness Monster, and wool. This diversity of iconic culture and natural features make Scotland a unique country for children to study.

The official languages of Scotland are Scottish Gaelic and English. The Gaelic Language Act of 2005 confirmed Gaelic as an official language of Scotland. Other languages include Scots, Polish, Mandarian, Cantonese, Punjabi, and British Sign Language (BSL).

Scotland is a country found in the Northern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere of the globe. As of 2021, Scotland has 32 political divisions (called “council areas” in English and “comhairlean” in Scottish Gaelic): Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Aberdeenshire, Highland, Aberdeen, West Lothian, Renfrewshire, Falkirk, Perth and Kinross, Dumfries and Galloway, Dundee, North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, Angus, Scottish Borders, South Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Moray, East Renfrewshire, Stirling, Midlothian, West Dunbartonshire, Argyll and Bute, Inverclyde, Clackmannanshire, Na h-Eileanan Siar (Western Isles), Shetland Islands, and Orkney Islands.

Scotland borders England to the south, but other than its southern border, is entirely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
