Princess Birthday Ideas

Our site has loads of free printables for use at a Princess themed Birthday Party, including greeting cards, treat bags, doorknob hangers, coloring pages and crafts.  Many of these are needed for every party and many of the others make great treat bag additions or even gifts for the birthday boy or girl.  Check out our Medieval and Fantasy Section for all of these and more.  

Frog themed ideas and Wizard themed ideas would also work, especially for boys at the party

But we all know there's more to a party than things you print out!  Here are some ideas to fill in the gaps:

ACTIVITIES/GAMES:

• Make a BINGO game using pictures, signs or words from the series.

• I bought a unicorn mold and plaster and made plaster wall plaques for the children to paint. They really enjoyed this! plus they had a keepsake from the party.
   
• For Boys:  If you have a sand box hide treasures there for the boys. tell them that Captin Hook left his treasure there to keep it from Peter Pan.
   
• Make Princess crowns (see simple beaded crown directions)

• Another big hit was making shoes. I got a lot of older shoes and spray painted them all gold.(before party) I bought feathers and beads, jewels etc. I had my sister-in-law help with the glue gun and regular glue, but most of the girls had a great time decorating them.

• use a huge castle (painted large boxes) as a backdrop for the "throne", and taking a photo of each child in front of the castle.
   
• “slaying” a piñata dragon

• Play pin the slipper on Cinderella
   
• Pass the poison apple (Snow White) - like hot potato.
   
• Have a mermaid race. Put green streamers from below the knee to right above the ankle and have them hop to the finish line.
   
• Bob for apples with Snow White.

DECORATIONS:

One viewer suggests:

• Pink and Purple streamers and balloons would work well with the princess theme.
   
• Cardboard Castle decoration in the center of a table  (see simple cardboard castle directions).
   
• You could also make (non-drinkable) magic birthday potion/poison (do you want to be the evil stepmother? Or ask a friend to do this?) by taking fairy dust (baking powder), dragon tears (vinegar) and ‘moat’ water – when mixed this foams and bubbles up!!
   
• I had an old chest and filled it with dress up clothes.I had a long mirror I used for them to gaze into the Mirror on the Wall.
   

FOOD

The purchase of one appropriately shaped cookie cutter can go a long way!

• I made star shaped Peanut Butter & Jelly (make sure the guests aren't allergic!), egg salad, & bologna/cheese sandwiches, star shaped cookies with pink, yellow and white frosting, star shaped yellow Jell-O jigglers (make a big cookie sheet of jello jiggler and cut out once set).
   
• The children can decorate their cookies with icing and sprinkles as a food activity.
   
• Glue small images (from coloring pages or clipart) onto toothpicks.  Let dry.  Stick in the top of cupcakes for an instant theme party treat!
   
• hollow out a pumpkin and fill with dip for veggies.
   
• kisses for the princess (Hershey’s kisses).
   
• Poison apples the kids can bob for
   

TREAT BAG IDEAS

One viewer suggests:

• My 4 year old was just at a "Fairy Princess" party and the absolute hit in the treat bag was Fairy Princess Dust. It was fine glitter (adult glitter for t-shirts etc, can be bought at the craft store). The glitter was in a pretty little bottle and the kids were given strict instructions to only use outdoors. Kaitlyn spent DAYS sprinkling magic princess dust all over the flowers in the back yard.

To tie it into disney, you could say it's Fairy Godmother Dust (the kind used to give Cinderella her fancy outfit and pumpkin coach)

• candy kiss castles as a party favor. I used baby food jars and filled them with kisses, wrapped construction paper around them and drew a door on, painted the lid silver and glued 3 kisses on top.
