Rainbow Paper Craft Contributed by Leanne Guenther This is a great craft for reinforcing a lesson on circles or on the fraction "half".  A big thanks to one of our viewers for contributing this idea!

Materials:

• Construction paper:  red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple (or pink if there is no purple in your construction paper pack)
• Scissors
• Optional:  String and thin cardboard
• Pencil

Instructions:

Draw a 9" circle on the red paper, 8" circle on the orange, 7" circle on the yellow and so on. To measure your circles, you can make a template for the kids to trace around on thin cardboard.   Just take a string and make it 1/2 the length of the circle. Anchor it in the middle of the thin cardboard and tie a pencil on the other end. Stretch it taught and draw all the way around. Cut out the template and let the kids use it to trace with. Cut out the circles. Glue them one on top of the other from biggest to smallest. Fold or cut in half to make a rainbow.

 

ADDITIONAL OPTION - MOBILE:

Cut out two identical cloud shapes as large as possible from white paper (you can use the template we've provided).  Staple or lace all the way around the outside, leaving a small space at the top.  Stuff the cloud with crumpled newspaper or cotton balls and staple the rest of the way.

Punch a hole in the center, top of the cloud and tie a string.  This will be used to hang from the ceiling.

Punch a hole in the center bottom of the cloud (if using one rainbow) or at various places along the bottom of the cloud if using more than one rainbow.

Punch a hole in the center top of the rainbow and use a string to hang it on the cloud.

Template:

• Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
• Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
