Halloween is such a great time of the year! Costumes, candy, pumpkin carving, trick or treating, handing out candy. The works! So many awesome things combined to make an amazing holiday! My favourite part about Halloween aside from the fact that we get heaps of candy, is the pumpkin carving! Every year me and my dad carve about three pumpkins, and we always get to make new carvings because we have so many different ones on the website!
My favourite pattern would have to be the howling wolf; it isn’t too difficult and looks really cool after its done and out on your porch! Wolves are so intimidating and perfect for Halloween which is why I really like it. There are a ton of patterns though, from the Twitter bird to a “Trick or Treat” pattern you can choose a pattern that suits your idea of Halloween and your difficulty level for carving! If you are doing this with younger kids it is important to provide supervision even for the less challenging patterns. I always love carving pumpkins with my dad, it’s a tradition, and even now that I’m older I still love participating in this festive activity with him!
And of course what is Halloween without homemade pumpkin seeds? I have made pumpkin seeds for as long as I can remember! When I go to pick out pumpkins I try to find the biggest ones in order to get as many seeds as possible. I have tried many different spices and would have to say that seasoning salt works quite well, another nice spice would be garlic salt. If your kid likes to help you in the kitchen but they are still a bit too young to do the actual carving, this is a great way to let them participate without risking anyone’s safety. Plus it makes a tasty treat for everyone to share!
Pumpkin Carving Patterns on DLTK’s Crafts for Kids
I am Kaitlyn, a 19 year old girl currentlyliving in Birmingham, England. I am the K in DLTK and I've been working for the family website since I could hold a crayon. Aside from helping my parents on the site, I run after school clubs with primary students in England and find fun ways to teach them maths! I also enjoy my volunteer work with the elderly people in my community—going to care homes and sheltered accomodations to sing, serve tea, or just talk. In my spare time I love to read, journal, play volleyball, and explore the UK. You can view my other blog posts here or connect with me on Facebook or Instagram.
