Mulla Nasruddin's Fables - Humble

One day; when Nasruddin was a young man, he lived in a small town. While it was quite small and quaint, it was big enough to have a mosque.

After evening prayer in the mosque, Nasruddin looked out to the starry sky. He began to think about how beyond the stars there were universes and worlds far bigger than earth.

Nasruddin then began to think about how humans have become so full of themselves, many of them possessing a great sense of pride, when we were just specks of dust in the universe in comparison to its entirety.

As Nasruddin was looking out the window in awe, he found himself falling to his knees and crying out: "I am nothing, nothing!"

There was a man in this small town that wanted to be thought of devout and kind. He cared a lot more about what others thought he was rather than what he actually was. He had coincidentally walked in on Nasruddin's moment of awe.

Nasruddin noticed him walking in and definitely felt a bit of shyness as a result, but the man then knelt down on the left of Nasruddin and began to also cry: "I am nothing, nothing!"

Then, another man witnessed what was happening as well. He was a simple man working for a modest wage, that did not care about what others thought in comparison to what he actually was. He too knelt down on the right of Nasruddin and began to cry: "I am nothing, nothing!"

But then, the man that was on Nasruddin's left nudged Nasruddin with his elbow. Then he chuckled under his breath, "look who is crying about how he is nothing!"

The End.
